  1. Houston H. Stokes says:

My Dad served on the BB Delaware in WW I. He often talked of the “Wolf” and gave me a book ‘The Cruise of the Raider “Wolf” ‘ by Roy Alexander Yale University Press 1939 which though highly of. Alexander was a prisoner on the “wolf” for nine months. I have not seen your book yet.

Thanks for your email — your father’s ship was stationed at Scapa Flow when the Wolf was making her home run to Germany in December-February 1918, so they very nearly crossed paths. Roy Alexander’s book is certainly the best account of the voyage from someone who was there. Our book reconstructs the entire story using German and British archives and a lot of other accounts from those aboard the ship. We’re officially published in the U.S. on April 20 but I believe the book is already available.

    Thanks again for your interest.
